Production of Cotton and Yarn in India

India's textile sector has a strong reliance on natural-fibre-based value chains despite diversification efforts. Textile produciton data shows reveals a clear dominance of cotton-led spinning, with cotton and spun yarn together contributing nearly 70% of total textile output.
A key structural insight is the relative shift toward man-made fibres (MMF) over the past decade, 'Fibre' and 'Filament-Yarn' output in FY24 is two-thirds the scale of cotton production, compared with less than half in the mid-2010s. Spun yarn production is resilient, despite volatility in raw cotton availability. /n Niche textile segments such as raw jute and silk remain small but stable over the last 5-7 years
