Credit Cards by Public Sector Banks

As of July 2, 2025, credit card usage across public sector banks shows a highly concentrated landscape. Out of a total of about 27 million transactions, the State Bank of India (SBI) alone accounts for nearly 79 percent, with over 21.3 million usages, making it the clear market leader.
The next largest player, Bank of Baroda, contributes around 11 percent with 3.06 million transactions, while Canara Bank follows at about 4 percent. Other banks such as Punjab National Bank, Union Bank of India, and Indian Bank together make up less than 10 percent of the total. Smaller players, including Bank of Maharashtra, Bank of India, and Indian Overseas Bank, record extremely low usage, each with less than half a percent share.
This distribution highlights the overwhelming dominance of SBI in the public sector credit card market, while also underlining significant growth opportunities for mid-tier and smaller banks that currently lag far behind.
