Value of Output from Livestock sector-2023
• The livestock sector in India has experienced consistent and substantial growth from the financial year 2017–18 to 2022–23. The total value of output increased from ₹10.43 lakh crore to ₹17.25 lakh crore, indicating a remarkable growth of around 65% over six years.
• The milk group remains the dominant contributor to the livestock sector, with its value rising from ₹7.07 lakh crore in 2017–18 to ₹11.16 lakh crore in 2022–23. This steady increase reflects not only higher milk production but also growing consumer demand and better price realization for dairy farmers.
• Egg production rore in value from ₹32,513 crore to ₹58,380 crore, highlighting increased consumption and production efficiency. Similarly, the value derived from dung rose from ₹56,208 crore to ₹86,596 crore, indicating growing awareness and use of organic manure, biogas, and other eco-friendly applications in farming.
