Global Crude Steel Production

Global crude steel production has been relatively stable since 2020, hovering around 1.88 to 1.96 billion tonnes annually. While production stood at 1.885 billion tonnes in 2024, the usage rate was high, with 214.7 kilograms of steel being consumed per person globally in the form of new products that year.
The average growth in global steel production was above 5% between 1950 to 1970 when infrastructure development was at the cusp in major world economies. The gorwth has stabilized to <1% over the past 5 years.
