Segment-wise IPC Crime Incidences In India
Between 2021 and 2023, India witnessed a mixed trend in major crime incidences. Offences involving personal harm such as hurt and causing death by negligence showed a consistent rise, with “hurt” cases increasing from about 5.86 lakh to 6.37 lakh and negligent deaths from 1.46 lakh to 1.66 lakh, indicating growing road mishaps and interpersonal violence.
Kidnapping and abduction also climbed steadily, rising over 11% in two years, driven in part by increased cases of missing children deemed kidnapped. In contrast, murder cases saw a slight but steady decline, from 29,272 to 27,721, suggesting some improvement in lethal violence control.
